To me family could really be anyone. Family doesn't need to be blood like some people think. Family comes in different varieties, all different shapes, colors, and personalities. Family is family. Pets are family. Friends are family. To me family is the people who encourage you to do your best and help you up when you are down. Family should have your back no matter the situation good or bad. Just like in the Disney movie "Lilo and Stitch", Lilo is all alone and doesn't have any friends, but one day Stitch shows up and over time Lilo and Stitch become what I would consider family. Like Lilo and Stitch say "Ohana means family. Family means no one gets left behind or forgotten."
