Jon Lester
I chose this picture because he is one of my favorite athletes. I also picked it because he went through a major cancer scare that could have claimed his life. He beat it and returned to the game he loves and became an ace pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, Oakland A's and finally with the Chicago Cubs. He works hard as an athlete, person and community member. He dedicated himself to his job and to living. I have much respect for Jon and think he is a really great role model for children of all ages and aspirations.
When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up? Police officer, Fire Fighter, Teacher, Doctor, Lawyer, Mechanic, Professional Athlete, etc. etc. ? We ask kids to think about it all the time, and why shouldn't they, it's their future. Work hard, persevere, Never give up, Be honest, Be kind, Be Respectful are just some of the things we tell our kids to ensure a better future. This next blog topic is from our 7th and 8th Grade A5 students. They came up with a couple of really good questions to think and write about. Here goes:
1. At this point in your life, what do you think your future will look like? Please describe. What do you see yourself doing after high school? Give good detail about how you are going to get to that future you describe (college, high school diploma, doctorate, etc.)
2. Do you think you could become a professional athlete? Please describe the sport and how you will achieve this goal. Step by Step. (Training, college, etc.) Also, please find one story of any professional athelte (hopefully your idol/ favorite athlete). You need to find out what they had to do, to go pro. Please describe their story. Can you see yourself dedicating that much time to a sport?
